I noticed we missed the annual Hudsonville Holiday Parade today! Oh we do miss the Christmas traditions at home and all of our family and friends! But we are trying to embrace the German traditions while we are here for a few short years. It was nice to experience our first German Christmas market. Germany has started celebrating Christmas by opening some of their Christmas markets this weekend. Many German towns set up Christmas Markets which are outdoor festivals filled with various Christmas booths full of decorations, hand made crafts, yummy german food and Gluhwein (hot spiced red wine). Although Dusseldorf has a beautiful market, it was a beautiful day for a drive. So we drove an hour south to the city of Aachen which we haven't seen yet. It is close to the border of Belgium and the Netherlands. We heard they have one of the best markets around our area. Their Christmas market is called Aachener Weihnachtsmarkt.
There were many beautiful churches in this town.
It is so fun to look at all the different kind of nutcrackers and advent centerpieces.
It was a fun feeling, somewhat magical, walking through the market.
We tasted some authentic German food while we were there.
That was just the start!
I think we will have to head to few more Christmas markets before the season ends.
Happy Holidays!
Did you buy another nutcracker???
