Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving weekend was quite different than what we are used to.  Vivian and Jack went to school, Mark went to work, and I went to Bible Study and out to lunch with some friends.  We watched the Lions in the evening.  But, we were so glad our family skyped us on Thanksgiving night so we could be apart of the gathering!  It finally felt more like Thanksgiving when we went to a Thanksgiving dinner at our church on Friday night.  Here's what our week-end looked like...

Friday night Thanksgiving Dinner in the sanctuary at our church in Dusseldorf.

This is Jack and his friend, Lorenzo, from school.  We invited his Italian family to come since they lived in Colorado for a few years and appreciate American culture.  There was a taped Lions game playing in the background and there were different kids rooms with activities and movies.

These are Lorenzo's parents, Manuela and Sandro.

On Saturday we were determined to get a Christmas tree, but we were told by our neighbor that many people get their trees closer to Christmas and trim them a few days before Christmas.  But, we did find a local Garten Center that sold some trees.  We were sticker shocked!  But we still had to get a tree even though we won't be spending Christmas here.  Vivian and Jack had fun decorating our Charlie Brown Christmas tree!

We went downtown to the Dusseldorf Christmas Market on Saturday night.

 Sharing a Gluhwein
and a bratwurst!

Any room left for some homemade dutch pancakes?

Here was a nice reminder of the reason for the season.  There were smaller handmade wooden nativity sets for sale right next door.  This was a life size example.

The city was packed with people enjoying the nice weather and the feeling of Christmas!
